Safeguarding and Child Protection
At Byron Primary School, safeguarding is at the heart of everything we do. We are committed to creating a safe, supportive and inclusive environment where every child feels valued, protected and able to thrive.
We recognise that safeguarding is everyone's responsibility. All staff, governors, volunteers and visitors have a duty to safeguard and promote the welfare of children and to act immediately if they have concerns about a child's safety or wellbeing.
We work closely with families, external agencies and the local authority to ensure that children receive the right help at the right time.
At Byron, we are committed to:
- Keeping children safe from harm.
- Promoting children's wellbeing and welfare.
- Creating a culture where children feel listened to and supported.
- Supporting families through early help and intervention.
- Teaching children how to keep themselves safe both in school and beyond.

Early Help
At Byron Primary School, we believe that identifying concerns early and providing support at the earliest opportunity can make a significant difference to children and families.
We work closely with parents, carers and a range of external agencies to provide support where needed. If you feel your child or family would benefit from additional support, please contact a member of the safeguarding team.
We are an Operation Encompass School

Our school is part of Operation Encompass, a national initiative that operates jointly between schools and police forces.
Operation Encompass ensures that schools are informed, before the start of the next school day, when a child has experienced or been exposed to domestic abuse.
Our trained Key Adult is:
Miss Hannah Norton
This information enables us to provide additional care, support and understanding for children who may have been affected.
The Domestic Abuse Act 2021 recognises children who experience domestic abuse as victims in their own right. The Victims and Prisoners Act 2024 has placed Operation Encompass into law and introduced a statutory duty on police forces to share notifications with schools.
Through Operation Encompass, we can provide timely support to help children feel safe, supported and ready to learn.
