Our Curriculum Vision

At Byron Primary School, we serve a vibrant, ambitious and richly diverse inner-city community where the majority of pupils speak English as an additional language.

We believe that every child deserves access to a broad, balanced and ambitious curriculum that enables them to achieve highly, develop their talents and prepare for the next stage of their education and future life.

Our curriculum is firmly rooted in the National Curriculum and is carefully designed to ensure that children acquire the knowledge, vocabulary and skills they need to become successful learners. We have high expectations for all pupils and are committed to ensuring that every child achieves their full potential, regardless of background or starting point.

Academic Excellence

Reading, writing and mathematics sit at the heart of our curriculum. We recognise that strong literacy and numeracy skills unlock learning across all subjects and provide the foundation for future success.

Our curriculum is designed so that pupils:

Learning is carefully sequenced to build on prior knowledge and ensure that pupils gain a deep understanding of important concepts and ideas.

A Curriculum for Our Community

We recognise and celebrate the rich diversity of our school community. Our curriculum provides opportunities for pupils to see themselves reflected in their learning whilst also developing an understanding of the wider world.

Language development is a key priority across the school. Staff carefully develop speaking, listening, reading and vocabulary so that all children can fully access the curriculum and communicate confidently.
